Broken hearted for the family as Deputy Hendrix was laid to rest today in Henderson County. This commissioner will never neglect or disrespect the sacrifice made by our men and women at the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.🇺🇸🚓💔 He was 35; the same age as my Son.Early Thursday morning, Henderson County (North Carolina) Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Hendrix responded to a 911 call for a vehicle break in. The owner of car stated that he exchanged gunfire with the suspect when he caught him inside of his vehicle. As the deputies arrived on location and confronted the gunman (who had retreated across the street and broke into a truck), he opened fire striking Deputy Hendrix in his face. The other deputies returned fire and killed the suspect. Ryan was rushed to nearby Mission Hospital but was unable to be saved. The wounded deputy was kept alive so his organs could be harvested for donation. From a friend of Ryan’s: “It was only the second time in Mission Hospital’s history that every organ from an individual was able to be donated; and some will be going to children. If God has a plan, it might make the slightest bit of sense that his life saved numerous children. Ryan would’ve loved that.”
Deputy Ryan Hendrix was an 8-year veteran of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office. During his time there, he worked as a crime scene detective, a field training officer and member of the SWAT team. Prior to becoming a Sheriff’s Deputy, Ryan proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He leaves behind two children and a fiancée who he was set to marry next month. Deputy Hendrix was 35 years old. … See MoreSee Less
